College of Southern Idaho
Snake River, Twin Falls, Idaho

While the first classes of the College of Southern Idaho were not held until the fall of 1965, the idea for the college had begun as early as 1952 when a Stanford doctoral student wrote the dissertation, “A Junior College Survey of Twin Falls County, Idaho.” In 1960, the Twin Falls Chamber of Commerce established a junior college committee to gain the finances in order to establish the institution. Around the same time, an unrelated institution named Southern Idaho College was closed due to an inadequate tax base, although a number of people later joined to help create and develop CSI.

The first evening classes were held at Twin Falls High School and vocational classes were held on Kimberly Road. Administrative offices were temporarily set up on West Addison in the old hospital annex building. Fortunately by 1967 ground was broken for the first building on campus, which was the Fine Arts Building. Today it not only has the main campus in Twin Falls, but it also has centers for education in Burley, Gooding, Jerome, and Hailey.

What is Twin Falls Like?

If you are in Twin Falls, Idaho, there is not a shortage of natural beauty available. Twin Falls, the waterfalls, are located in Snake River Canyon, and walking or hiking the trail there is considered one of the top things to do while in Twin Falls. There is also Shoshone Falls and Pillar Falls which are nearby and a bit downstream from Twin Falls in the canyon.

While in the area, be sure to visit Perrine Bridge which is the most famous bridge in Idaho. At 486 feet high it attracts some folks who are into extreme sports, such as base jumping. If you are into a bit of adventure, but perhaps not quite so extreme, places which provide zip lining can be found in Twin Falls, as well as a flight simulation zip line experience.

If you’d rather be inside, there is the Herrett Center for Arts and Science which is conveniently located on campus, the Idaho Heritage Museum, or perhaps if you’d care to do some shopping, there is the Magic Valley Mall.

College of Southern Idaho Online Courses

The College of Southern Idaho understands that sometimes students have to work during usual class hours or might be juggling both a job and a family or possibly have a long commute to the college campus, or all three! Strong willed students do not let these things deter them because there are online courses to help them continue getting the education they desire even though it may seem there are many obstacles in the way of a traditional college experience. CSI offers a wide variety of classes online. The college offers a quiz for prospective online students to see if they are truly ready for online classes. Once registered for online courses, the school asks that students contact their instructors a week prior to class to be sure that they are able to gain the required access.

Accreditation: CSI is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and has been accredited since 1968.
