Top 20 Best Online Colleges Near Jacksonville
Find your degree
Continuing our series of best online college by state rankings, we have examined all online colleges near Jacksonville, Florida, and chosen to showcase the top 20 schools, based on the methodology stated below.
Jacksonville, Florida, is the largest city by area in the state as well as the continental United States, covering over 840 square miles. It is located in the Northeastern part of the state, where the St. John’s River meets the Atlantic Ocean. This massive city has 1,100 miles of coastline, which of course, means tons of beautiful beaches and resorts to make it a fabulous and highly sought travel destination. Of course, there’s far more to Jacksonville than beaches, there’s plenty of museums and world-class art, not to mention thousands of acres of parks and trails.
With so much to see and do in Jacksonville, why wouldn’t anyone want to attend school there or nearby? For this ranking, we have evaluated colleges and universities with online options within about 200 miles of Jacksonville. This makes the furthest schools just over 3 hours by automobile, making it an easy day trip when visits to the campus may be desired or required.
Methodology
In order to rank the schools near Jacksonville, Florida, sources used include:
- CollegeData
- Niche
- National Center for Education Statistics
- Individual school websites
Each school was evaluated to find out if online classes were offered. Then, the online colleges were organized by adding together the percentage numbers for freshman satisfaction and graduation rates. Added to these numbers were a numerical equivalent of the academic and overall grades provided by Niche, with A+ being 100, A being 90, and so on in this manner. In order to give more consideration to affordability, the (residential) cost of attendance was rounded to the nearest thousand, and that number was then subtracted from the total of the other numbers to give a final score for ranking.
Example: 45 (percent for freshman satisfaction) + 56 (graduation percent) + 80 (A- Academic Grade) + 90 (A Overall Grade) = 271
271 (total from above) – 36 ($35,750 cost of attendance) = 235 (final score for ranking)
We also consulted our ranking of the top 100 best online colleges during our research.
